Gaming is a form of entertainment and also competition - just like competitive sports.


It's this competitive nature of gaming that drives players to perform better than others and climb up to the top of the leaderboards.

Taken to extremes, there are a lot of gaming competitions organized with prize money in the millions of dollars.


Various scoring parameters are what enable the game to track the performance of each player in the game.

These are then compared among players as part of competition.


These scoring parameters can also be used inside the game as the basis of some criteria for premium experience - higher scores generally indicating that the player has spent considerable time and effort in the game and is a valued player.

They can also be used as an objective means to match up players in a multiplayer game.


Usually, there are 2 primary scoring systems implemented:

  1. profile scores - these are scores that the player has accumulated throughout his lifetime in the game.
  2. session scores - these scores are associated with a particular session of play

The session scores can be attached to specific events (tournaments/leagues) by way of the session itself being attached to the event (i.e. by tagging the session as part of particular event).

Typical parameters tracked as part of scoring in both the above cases include:
  1. wins - no. of wins (self-explanatory)
  2. losses - no. of losses (self-explanatory)
  3. xp - experience points (indicating the skill level of the player)
  4. hp - health points (indicating health of the user - lives, power cores etc. - if used in the game)

Apart from these, Playblazer platform allows the app to define its own custom scoring attributes and track those too.
